Note for Casting:
Trans and nonbinary people aren't a monolith! We all express our gender and experience trans-ness in different spectrums, and I feel as a member of this community it is deeply important that we honor those truths in casting.
For the purposes of casting, I identify as a nonbinary lesbian and use they/them prounouns.
What does this mean and what types of roles can I comfortably play? Although I present and feel most comfortable on the masculine-leaning side of androgyny, there are a wide variety of roles I feel comfortable and find joy in playing! Those include: nonbinary characters, younger men (if I queer it a bit), and queer women, in particular those of a butch /gender non-conforming presentation!
Need a bit more guidance? Here's some examples: Emma (The Prom), Jack (Into the Woods), Peter Pan (Peter Pan), Alison (Fun Home), Percy (The Lightning Thief), Toby (Sweeney Todd), Jo (Jagged Little Pill), Dickon (The Secret Garden). I wish there were more butch lesbians in media to draw inspiration from as examples, but unfortunately we're still sorely underrepresented. "All League of Their Own" and "Heartstopper" are great starting examples though!

Resources:
For additional resources, I've done work as a DEI consultant throughout my time at ASU, and compiled resources during my senior thesis project for help with casting and general understand of trans/nonbinary folks in media. I'm always down for a conversation about any of this, and happy to pass further resources along for anyone who feels just as passionate about this work as I do.
